Zhongji Innolight's HK Debut Breaks Issue Price: Dual Pressure from Aggressive Pricing and Cooling AI Capex Expectations

On July 30, 2026, Zhongji Innolight (300308.SZ, 03308.HK), a leading optical module company, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. However, its first-day HK IPO performance surprised the market. The stock fell to HK$880 intraday, a drop of more than 10%, before closing down 2.04% at HK$960. As a benchmark player in the A-share optical module sector, Zhongji Innolight's Hong Kong debut breaking its issue price has triggered a fresh review of AI industry chain valuation logic and the sustainability of overseas demand.

Aggressive Pricing: Discount Room Compressed

According to industry insiders, the first-day break on the HK stock is closely related to the relatively high offering price. On July 28, the company announced a global offering price of HK$980 per H-share. If the sponsor fully exercises the 15% over-allotment option, total fundraising will approach HK$61 billion. Based on this, the issue P/E ratio (TTM) is about 70 times, a valuation that does not appear cheap in the current AI sector adjustment cycle.

Wu Lixian, international strategist at Everbright Securities International, told Yicai that when Zhongji Innolight set the issue price, the overall valuation of AI industry companies was still high, and the A-share price was also at elevated levels. The H-share issue price referenced the A-share price at the time. But from prospectus to listing, the AI sector retreated significantly, and the first-day share price performance is a direct reflection of this market change. Notably, at pricing, the A-share closing price was RMB 1,136 (July 21), and the HK$980 issue price represented a discount of about 24%, whereas many companies' H-share issues have traditionally been priced at a discount of 30% or more. Li Zeming, chief investment officer at Blue Water Capital, believes that with the 'A-share first, H-share later' listing model, such pricing was somewhat aggressive.

AI Capex Expectations Shift: Optical Module Sector Under Pressure

Besides pricing, the broader pullback in the optical module sector also intensified pressure on Zhongji Innolight's share price. On July 30, its A-shares fell 9.15% to close at RMB 864, with turnover of RMB 59.8 billion; the H-shares, after a strong afternoon rebound, narrowed losses to 2.04%. As of that close, the H-shares' discount to A-shares was less than 5%.

A private fund manager in Guangzhou believes that most of Zhongji Innolight's revenue comes from overseas. In the past, overseas tech giants announced higher capex to purchase AI infrastructure products, which gave optical modules market recognition and drove up the stock. However, some overseas tech giants such as Google have seen net free cash outflows, while Microsoft and others have lowered capex. Hardware across the AI supply chain now faces a credibility test. As the optical module leader, Zhongji Innolight's share price is highly correlated with AI capex expectations. Once overseas customers cut spending, its valuation logic will be directly hit.

Overseas Revenue Over 90%: Geopolitical Risks Cannot Be Ignored

Fundamentally, Zhongji Innolight is extremely dependent on overseas customers. Its 2025 annual report shows revenue of RMB 38.24 billion, of which RMB 34.64 billion came from overseas customers, accounting for 90.58%. The company said its optical communication module business mainly exports to North America and other countries or regions, and most key raw materials are also sourced overseas. Should China-US trade disputes escalate and trade sanctions deepen, demand for optical module products could decline and procurement of key raw materials could become more difficult, in turn affecting the company's profitability.
